About

If you aspire to lead groups on Mountain Bikes then you need to get qualified. Ian at Rock and Ride Outdoors is the only qualified MBLA tutor in Northern Ireland delivering the Trail Cycle Leader and Mountain Bike Leader Training Courses and Assessments from our base in the Mournes all year round.

The MBLA awards are internationally recognised as the top Mountain Bike qualifications available. If you've already attained the TCL qualification then you'll know the difficulties and skills involved in leading groups on bikes and also the limitations of the TCL remit. If you intend to work in extremely technical terrain, remote areas or guide in the mountains abroad then you need to take the next step and become MBL qualified. Likewise, if you're an experienced biker and outdoor instructor and you want to be recognised as one of the best leaders around then the MBL should guarantee you scoop the best work!

We make no apologies for the level of difficulty of the course, it is designated as 'Advanced' by Coaching Ireland which means it has to hit very exacting criteria. There will be high expectations of your own personal riding and leadership skills before you even undertake the training. However, what this means is that for the people talented enough to gain the qualification, you will rightly be viewed as the elite few amongst bike guides.

Cycling Ireland turned to Ian to write, adapt and improve on the Scottish Cycling MBL syllabus in order for it to meet Coaching Ireland's strict criteria. Now he is delivering the course for Rock and Ride Outdoors and nobody else in order to maintain the very high standards of delivery and quality assurance.

The training course is three days and the assessment is two full days. Upon successful completion of both you'll be fully qualified to take groups of up to 8 riders in any legal terrain. This qualification is essential for anyone with aspirations to guide on the hardest trails and teach advanced riders how to improve.
